The Warboot fallout continues. Will Siege survive this?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCYFUZWE3wgWhy are mini companies becoming so scummy?
Quick rundown? Have been in Gaza for the last year.
>>96747979Warboot is a term of art in the UK for a wargaming boot sale - known more colloquially in North America as a swap meet or rummage sale. It's a pretty commonplace occurrence and there are a number of organized warboots already extant in the British wargaming community. Two weeks ago, Siege Studios' CEO attempted to copyright the term "warboot" and started issuing cease-and-desist letters to those preexisting organizers. It did not go over well and now all of Siege Studios' dirty laundry is hitting the web.
>>96748529lol that does seem particularity stupid. Not only pushy and alienating, but not for any significant gain either.
>>96746547A lot of the time it's not intentional by the creator, it's the company being scummy. I've had plenty of times where I've worked freelance for a company and they've tried to stiff me or trick me into working for free. I fell for it twice when I was younger but common shit includes things like:>initially paying regularly for work and then acting like there's an issue in their finance department that will delay a payment, expect you to still deliver on a project, but then never paying you and cutting ties>bombarding you with documents and contracts, refusing to use yours, and then tweaking them before the final contract is signed>ignoring your existing portfolio and baiting you into doing work as an "example exercise" to give to HR to prove you're suitable, but secretly the example is an actual campaign they're planning to launch and are stealing the best ones from naive freelancers>trying to buddy up to you and act like you're friends so that it's harder to draw proper professional boundaries, which they then exploit to steal work and concepts that they try to discuss with you outside of working hours>using tight deadlines, stress, and confusion to cause you to slip up and provide work that isn't technically covered by a contract>holding payments hostage for legitimate work, which they then claim new work is a part of and won't release funds until its done>threatening to blacklist if you don't do more than you agreed for the project, even going so far as to put you on other projects without any hint of shame>putting you into teams and claiming you are all working on the same project as freelancers, but half of them are internal employees looking to take what you're doing before you present it to the company so they don't have to pay you>simply lying that you didn't do any work for them (this has happened once to me, took them to small claims court, they claimed bankruptcy and opened a second business under a different name but doing the same shit)
>>96746432Good. Fuck artists. More importantly, fuck art.Art has been dog shit for multiple generations, be it written, spoken, drawn, painted, sculpted, or otherwise. As soon as art had Jackson Pollock, Tupac, and Stephanie Myers among their profitable contributors, the entire concept of what constitutes art needed to be blasted off the face of the earth so it can be rebuilt.

>>96752665Ah, that sucks. >is the 2e significantly better than the first in any way? After a quick read, it's mostly the same game with some visual improvements, but the biggest thing is the balance changes. 1e was apparently tilted towards the Allies once people know what they're doing. >>96749244Depends, but usually no. Documentaries on serial killers and crimes usually end up too Tell and not enough Show, so they lose his interest unless they have a lot of reenactment scenes peppered in there. Snuff films have the opposite problem and focus entirely on the gore with not much story or character - he thought the practical effects in the Guinea Pig series were excellent but dislikes the films themselves. He's a bit hypocritical on that front since he loves schlocky horror even though it's cliche garbage that only exists to cover girls in fake blood. Don't ask him to explain the difference or he'll go on a rant for a couple hours. He loves the 'based on a true story' or found footage type movies that are complete bullshit though - he went nuts for Blair Witch. He could be hooked onto the murder plan if it was framed that way, but the logistics would be pretty difficult. He keeps David Attenborough animal documentaries under his bed and watches them secretly, as he is quite embarrassed about them.>>96749428>I do keep coming back to it fucking up Rin's stealth with the mission's front pay scan, but that'll be more interesting for other people to interact with if they want. That's pretty good - would also be a good excuse for the HLA to actually get in a serious fight, because right now they seem really good at staying out of combat and running away if they need to (Kenji teleporting and scanning, Rin stealth and Garganta, Itsuro with crowd control and Hax, and Kentaro as a 'fuck you' stat check to buy time or just beat the enemy).Good job on the chart! Kentaro and Kaoru are my favs, but the blurb about Itsuro being a 9 is funny.
>>96748129I wasn’t talking about that, there was an anon that said he was writing ANOTHER one where one half of the HLA creates a Flooding Zone to lure in the SC and the other half goes into the SC room. As far as I know, that’s still in the works. I don’t wanna step on that guy’s toes by writing a DIFFERENT HLA attack without knowing them that well.>>96749522>”Good. >>96749428I wanted to know if Rin would try to keep her connection to Alyona a secret from the HLA.Or even try to bring Alyona into their operations given her connections and money.
I'm writing Kaoru's files on everyone. I'd like to have a more detailed explanation on what exactly the Census Club does, which clubs they would target and what they do with the money. It's a pretty big undertaking so I might be slow because every file is very detailed with info, theories, threat level, contingency plans and even dating prospects for the guys.
Redditors can only conceive of balance meaning "every class is equal is power at every moment in time and during every encounter."Meanwhile AD&D wizards:>d4 hp>no armor, no weapons other than dagger and staff>generally casting toward end of round and taking one hp of damage causes spell to be lost>need speech and free hands AND material components>must find spell to know it, don't just pick it. Means every wizard doesn't automatically use the same OP spells>Vancian is far weaker than the flexibility of at-will spell selection (this is a good thing)>actual attrition-based play rather than "I rest after every encounter and therefore begin every encounter with all my spells, tee hee!">Most importantly, and this rarely gets mentioned even by grognards: MAGIC RESISTANCE among high-level monsters.Yeah, I'd say it was balanced.
>>96711754>You used up almost all your spells before now fighting those "useless gay minions" in the prior rooms? I guess they're not so useless after now. LOL, no I won't wait while you take a short rest on my cavern floor.K, meanwhile I leave yer dungeon and flood it with water, destroy the foundation, and bury in a tomb of your own making. Spells? Oh, yeah, I don't need those. Look up the rules for followers and mining equipment. OP is a faggot.
>>96749106Why are there over powered player options in the game?
>>96744405Combat probably comprises maybe 20% of any given AD&D1e session, not counting deliberate dungeon crawl modules or similar. At the beginning of combat, the Magic-User has most likely slept an entire group of monsters. That is a higher contribution to the survival of the overall group than perhaps even a Cleric, if the encounter goes well. You have 3e onward MMO brainrot.
>>96750982lol cope
>>96750732Pretty bad, yeah, but the basic idea is sound. It's something I've wondered at myself. Basic competence in melee for FIGHT MAN and MAGIC MAN is sound. This prevents us from needing to introduce x number of mechanics to the wizard to make up for being an incompetent boob with less HP than a hamster on suicide mission. Which then would force us to buff the fighter to make up for that. Which now put us in the current arms race DND is stuck in. Gearing is also a much better way to control the experience in general and easily divides classes along flavor. Even with only 2 spells an adventure, Wizards should have tons of scrolls and other items only they know how to use to play with. Which, personally, I find more engaging in that feel of mysticism than having 20 spells I can cast at will. The real trick here, I think, is combat balance. This is where things fly apart. Modern encounters are overloaded. I think that's the hidden major problem behind everything else. Too many enemies per encounter. Too many encounters. Which only makes sense in a video game where each encounter is designed to use every resource you have since you get them all back between fights. Healing resources included. So now we have to make sure you take as much damage in fights as possible as a shit test of your build? We don't NEED a lot of shit to fight constantly if the greater pool of potent resources is both gone and harder to get back, and you can throw a few minor challenges everywhere so people still get stab things to make it feel more dangerous than it is. Best of all, the wizard is also competent enough at this to participate.

>>96753097Doubling up on pinning is a good technique. You basically drill 2 holes, place in short paperclips that barely poke out of the holes. Then dab each end with paint and then dry fit the two parts together. Then you can tell where to drill for the other sides. I'm using a few pins that are over 2.5 inches so each side is around 1.25"Now what I have to do is clean up this sort of bad recast. House Rules are pretty common to customize play the way the table (or at the GM) likes, but have you had instances of it backfiring on you?
>>96742206There was one day My buddy was DMing 5e while we were all still teenagers (14-16, he was the youngest), and this nigga wanted to implement a homebrew system he found for called shots. So you could say "I stab him in the leg" and you'd automatically roll with disadvantage, but you otherwise make the attack as normal and get a potential bonus effect and damage for hitting, which varied by limb. It's also important to know My character had a custom weapon that was a longbow which could break apart into 2 shortswords. At one point our rogue stabbed an enemy in the leg with his dagger. 32 damage after accounting for everything, including sneak attack. I decide to try it out, and say I want to stab an enemy in the face with one of My swords. I don't remember the specifics of the exchange, but this nigga tells Me that after everything - the most damage I could deal to him by stabbing him in the face was 8. I pointed out how Rogue stabbed a guy in the LEG and got 32, and here he is now telling Me that a SWORD TO THE FACE will deal 8 AT MOST, and I ask if that makes sense to him. I will never forget the way this nigga looked Me dead in the eyes and simply said "Yes."We all argued for a bit after that and he ultimately decided to scrap the system entirely. He also said I couldn't strap vials of oil to My arrows because My intelligence at 16 was "too low" to come up with an idea like that.Anyway this nigga was only 14 at the time and he is literally autistic, so we should've expected some retardery. We still bust his balls about it sometimes. I love that guy.
>>96742206>>96751939I guess that didn't really "backfire" as much as it was just a bad idea, now that I read it. Let Me fix that.Another one of our friends was DMing 5e and decided that critical hits result in you dealing automatic max damage and THEN you also roll your critical dice.I played a sorcadin - although I decided that before we were told about this rule. At one point we were facing some kind of demon lord and I liquified the bitch with over 400 damage in one swing. He decided to switch back to normal critical rules after that.
>>96742206not quite /tg/, but I feel that many modern action games and fighting games are sort of mini-homebrew chess games in their own way.a lot of the same key skills apply: memorization of each piece and its abilities and rules, use of your pieces to create zones of threat, where your opponent can't safely move, using such gambits in layered strategies that involve forcing them into a disadvantage, either without knowing or without any alternatives.any game with an enemy that does some kind of zone denial is based fundamentally on the mentality of chess.
>>96752048My DM has implemented both of those and since we are still at level 1 an enemy critting on you pretty much is always a take down if not instant death. I haven't made a called shot yet because I know if I remind my DM about it, I will have to worry about my character getting mutilated.
>>96753066>still at level 1>stillHow long have you been playing for? I pity you if you're in 5e because I genuinely don't believe the game is meant to be played at levels 1 and 2. Also, what makes you want to keep playing?

>>96752989The lawsuit was over Gygax trying not to pay royalties to Arneson for AD&D.
>>96753020Here's the timeline.1974- OD&D published, Arneson joins TSR1976- Arneson leaves TSR1977-Basic Set is published, and Arneson discovers he's only getting 5% on the Basic D&D Rulebook which was sold separately, and not the rest of the Basic Set. 1979-Arneson sues TSR over this, with TSR arguing that Arneson should only get royalties from the rules he contributed to, and not for things like the In Search of the Unknown introductory module that came with the Basic set. Should Space Marines be made more common? These mythical warriors of only 1 million or so total spread thin throughout the Imperium does NOT match up with what we actually see, which is the Astartes showing up in large numbers to even minor conflicts and dying in large numbers as well.
Even completely codex compliant chapters have more than 1000 "marines" as the 10th company can be as large as they feel they need (and some chapters have a second 10th company).
>>96751818>15 - 20 cruisers for one chapterThat's as many as a fucking battlefleet. What the hell is the navy even for at this point?
>>96752778You already have them, give big booba bloodthirsters
>>96748943not as hard as you think considering1. air superiority2. they may just not have weapons and training that can effectively fight a marine. sure you can eventually wear them down but if your troop quality doesn't measure up that means they get to cut through any force that engages them for however long until that happens. they can go where they want, they can destroy what they want and then probably just leave afterwards.3. how much control do you meaningfully have over 10 billion people? china has issues making its regional governors do what it wants. russia can't make its commanders apply a doctrine other than "send the least favorites in first" and these are still states with fairly coherent national ideas. maybe they are attacking a planet with well established space age governance that can meaningfully leverage resources at this scale but most planets, especially rogue ones are not that. it's not gonna be "they went through every soldier, vehicle and then the millions that can theoretically be mobilized". it's gonna be "they landed in DC, took out the government and then routed the army's attempt to take it back. the air force was mostly destroyed before it could take off. texas has decided to try diplomacy".4. also logistics are fucking shit when you're trying to get something out of a force that's qualitatively inferior. ten times the troops might win the battle but you have to get them all to be there at the same time and then carry up ten times the supplies for them to make it to that battle. levies can hold territory but their offensive capabilities are ASS.
