For anyone that's played both GURPS and one of the 40k RPGs (Dark Heresy 2E, Only War, Rogue Trader, etc.) can anyone compare the two games? I've been trying to get my group into GURPS, but after some months of playing, I feel like I'm the only one who actually likes the system. My game will be ending in a couple of sessions more. After that, one of my players is going to start GM'ing for the first time, and he's invited me to his upcoming game.
He's going to be running someone else's DH2E homebrew called "Sector X", set in the world of Girls' Frontline. Though I'm interested in the setting, I've looked through the rules for DH2E and Sector X and I'm rather unimpressed. There are a lot of rules that are lacking, to the point that he's had to ask me for advice when adjudicating things the book doesn't cover (like using non-abstract currencies or creating custom roles/backgrounds/homeworlds). I especially want to kill whoever came up with the idea of Aptitudes. It feels like such a huge step down from GURPS. But maybe it's not that bad in actual play. Does anyone have experience?

I like scifi as a genre because all the new tech that show us, but in terms of aesthetics, always looks like shit.

Do you know any scifi RPG with good aesthetics? Even if it's just concepts, draws or artworks.

PD: If someone is going to say 40k, I admit it has cool things, but I don't find it pleasant.

The old Fading Suns game has great art in a 90s way. The new versions are standard generic rpg nothings but the older stuff has a very cohesive world, lore and art that isn't even the worst mechanically. The life path generation for it feels about right for the space feudalism casts.

Trying to understand Dark Heresy 2E because one of my friends wants to run a game using the system (but in a homebrew setting). I'm coming here from RPGs like D&D, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, and GURPS. I was last running a GURPS campaign (it was a high-TL, highly cinematic game of cyborg/mutant PCs in a PMC fighting psychic aliens and magic robots), so those are the rules I am most recently familiar with. For anyone who's played both games, how do they compare?
I'm reading through the rules and one thing I notice is that gear acquisition is abstract. My friend realized this also and doesn't like it, so he's trying to assign prices to everything, but he doesn't know how to do it.
I'm also not sure I like the concept of Aptitudes. My friend says that he likes it, because "it'll discourage min-maxing and encourage roleplay", but I see it as the exact opposite. You're encouraged to buy up traits within your aptitudes, and if your concept calls for traits that don't match up with one of the given roles, then you're punished for that. Maybe I might just be angry because the roles given in my friend's homebrew kind of suck. For instance, I want to play a melee character (my friend knows this), but the only role with a Melee Skill aptitude is the "Technician" role of all things, and none of the homeworlds/backgrounds give Melee Skill aptitude. But he also "doesn't want to change things too much", because he's using someone else's homebrew and "doesn't want to risk unbalancing the game."
Idk. Maybe this is just my GURPS brain unable to come to terms. When running that game, I would either allow a trait, or forbid it, depending on whether it made sense in the setting. Aptitudes feel like character classes with extra steps, which is the exact thing we were trying to run away from with my previous game.

The game is coming more archetypal. Typically you can build a deck for a new leader with like 80-90% of your cards coming from the set the leader was released in. Caulifla for example in FB08 is 95% Universe 6 cards that all released in that set. If you play a yellow Buu deck most of your deck is going to be Buu cards. But there are decks like yellow Vegeta that is just a pile of good cards that isn't following an archetype.
There's definitely nowhere near the amount of keywords as Digimon has though.

There's no summoning sickness so that takes some getting used to but I prefer it. And if you think blockers are too strong in Gundam then Fusion World is the game for you because they're next to useless except in some few select cases.

We are getting out of a lull season. Outside of Battlecry, which was a pretty strong book all things considering, most of 2025 was pretty mid for PF2e content. A lot of "That was a thing" APs, even the big one with Revenge of the Runelords. This year they seem very excited to push out some bigger stuff, like a full dungeon crawl adventure set in Bastionhall or the Hellfire Crisis.
Meta-wise, nothing too much of a shakeup has happened since the remaster. Wizard is still hurting but the new Runelord and War Mage options are strong picks. Gunslinger got some significant buffs while Inventor got...not NOTHING, they are definitely impactful, but none that fixes the core issues people have with it. We have to wait 'til next month to see what they do with Psychic and Thaumaturge when they rerelease Dark Archive. And Magus and Summoner was FINALLY confirmed just last night that their remaster will be released with Necromancer and Runesmith in the Gen Con book for this year -- Impossible Magic.

So i was invited to play season of ghosts with free archetype, as i am not wanting to spoil myself i was wondering if anyone could help me settle on which class to play
i was thinking a orc base dragonblood. im torn between going for a dragon barbarian for the full dragon theme or going a str melee ranger.

With the Draconic codex stuff it would likely be sovereign dragon with the barbarian focusing on unarmed bites/grapples. but ranger also seems easy to fit and slot in narratively

Anons, help me with a question.
Unit A is near the Impas. Its front row moves slightly forward. The opponent sees this unit, and their Unit B is on the flank. Then the following happens:
1) The opponent charges Unit B onto Unit A.
2) Unit B has enough movement to maneuver, and after moving, it finds itself in contact with Unit A, touching the corners of its bases.
3) After contact, Unit B turns, ending up in this position.
Question: Is this possible? And another question: if there's another unit instead of the Impas, will it just move an inch?

even if rules would support the idea that unitA has to move forward to maximise contact to the charged flank, at least in the edition I was most familiar with (I can't be sure tow is worded the same, but it likely is), I'd say the purpose of moving the unit next to the impassable terrain is to cover that flank, and consider it a gamey abuse to argue in favour of such a charge on a small corner.
