Remember this was back in a time when the pokemon team created and developed their world and mechanics with their philosophy and vibes, regardless of what the crybaby fans might think. And what a shocker, the first two gens remain the peak of the series. I would take another gen 2 game with "muh level curve and post game" a thousand times over compared to the predictable, formulaic, homogenized bullshit we've gotten in every gen after. Enjoyed by everyone, but loved by no one.
