I am just joking (and hadn't noticed the that if it doesn't match to give something else so I gave her Lusty instead)

Also I really gotta commend the NPC led seduction, makes towns a lot more interesting
>>
LA anon, about entangle/Slimed, what counts as staying in melee combat? When the round ends (so if I don't manage to dodge away, for example and the tentacles stay in melee as the round cycles, I get entangle?)
>>
Regarding Labyrinthus, there is currently some testing for Alchemy, which already has improved some previous flaws, since now I have time to actually try it.

I added a specific feat for Alchemists to get some advantage and already changed some recipes to be more consisted, same for what you can find either in the overworld or in dungeons, especially having all zones which grant a chance to find herbs to have all colors except for pink and purple, so now you just pick what you need and try to harvest it. Some recipes have been removed other further simplified. Another important thing that has been added is "Catalysing reagents" which can be various thing and no longer just Alcohol, so making a catalyst in the first place would be easier, such as various substances and even reagents extracted or milked from monsters, but also replacing herbs.
>>
Bad-ended by tentacles award. You'd think 12 attack dice would be enough but apparently not. And with 3 untrained Mental Strength, it took her about a week of unlucky rolls to become a proper seedbed.

See, this is what I was talking about before. You can be dangerous as hell in a fight, but when you run up on something that actually challenges your build, it's very possible to get folded. And that's a good thing.

How can you possibly do the Soulbinding anywhere but Terra though?
>>
>>96629834
>Are all psykers who attend the Scholastia Psykana's five year basic training sent to Terra or are there regional facilities?
Assessment happens in lots of places. Some are deemed too dangerous and killed immediately. Some are found to be very strong and loyal and sent to an appropriate place for special training without Soul Binding. Most get sent to Terra to become Astropaths. Some of those sent to Terra receive special training and become part of the choir of the Astronomican (it's unclear if this requires Soul Binding). Rejects and failures who aren't killed outright get fed into the Golden Throne (which also eats the ones in the choir, but by less direct means). It's possible that those who are sent to Terra get some initial training on the way, since the trip is likely to be long. On the other hand, Soul Binding tends to cause some memory loss, so it's possible they don't bother (or that the "training" they receive is just preparation for Soul Binding and they'll be fully retrained to actually use their powers later). Also, I think the "five-year basic training" thing applies to specific subgroups within that list (likely the ones not sent to Terra).

Hey, what the fuck is an Immaterium Surge Station, and if they exist, why the hell were the cadian pylons such a big deal? Isn't 'Warp go away now' the Necron's schtick?
Anyway, if they're not inherently retarded as a concept, I have ideas about a homebrewed sector which makes use of them, which might actually fit my Forever War IW successors.

You won't see them in the novels no, but the monstrosities you can make on actual tables (in 3.5e anyway) with some basic cheese are another matter entirely.
(e.g. persistent Delay Death + Pain Mastery = The Hulk).
>>
>>96622224
I too love sucking cop cock. SWAT guys are level 8 despite probably never having been in a fight in their lives and being notoriously easy to fool with a single phone call? gtfo with this shit
>>
>>96630364
The only novel I've seen which accurately depicts the kind of bullshit high-level 3.5e characters can get up to is Overlord (where the protagonist and his top minions are lv40 equivalent in a largely E6 world).
And I mean specifically the novels, where you have e.g. Ainz's monologue about how his entire crew wears magic items granting them Freedom of Movement + immunity to Time Stop, even saying that entering a duel against another high-level character without having some counter for Time Stop is suicide. Bear in mind that the primary inspiration here was PvP in Neverwinter Nights persistent worlds, where the opponents are other players and absolutely not going to tailor their abilities to what you can handle in the way a DM is supposed to.

By comparison official D&D novels have silliness like epic-level wizards who fight without casting spells (nor even having any buffs up beforehand). This while still somehow awkwardly working references to class features into dialogue.
>>
>>96626807
People have done the math, and 3e characters are already hitting or exceeding world records in various fields by lv6.
Given that +2 levels is supposed to represent a doubling of challenge (i.e. in a vacuum a single lv6 guy is evenly matched against two lv4 guys) , this would make an lv20 character about 128x stronger than human limits.
A character being the "strongest in the world" in their own setting doesn't mean you can drop them into other settings with completely different power scales and still have them on top.

This is one of the reasons E6 is popular, where the level cap is reduced to 6 and your "epic progression" just consists of gaining extra feats. (Another reason is the jump in power between 3rd and 4th level spells)
>>
>>96630728
A Level 1 Barbarian with Run & Dash rivals Usain Bolt.
A Level 1 Anything with 18 STR and Improved Encumbrance deadlifts 500 k.g.
Level 6 is an overstatement, Anon.

You pick up a Muslim or Christian faction and build a skirmish sized team to carry from rags to riches during the Crusades. It's low count miniatures and you're encouraged to kit bash every single one of them into what you see is what you get, so if you can upgrade your knight to a large shield you glue a large shield to it before the next game.

>any historical wargames that managed to do the "band of your dudes adventuring and progressing in a historical setting" well?
If you go back to Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1st edition combined with the chainmail modern rewrite: The old lords of ruin and wonder, and you ignore anything fantasy in the books.
You'll have a magnificent adventuring wargame with progress and historical rules.
The monster manual has treasures and army sizes for men.

AD&D 1E is a wargame and you can play it historically.
I'd recommend Tony Bath's setting up wargaming campaigns or Henry Hydes wargaming campaigns for populating the hexmap.
The players would probably need to start with some more money or forces unless they do heists in towns.

Why did Dungeons and Dragons styled tabletop roleplaying take until the 1970s to invent? I know they had tabletop wargames before that as far back as the 17th century, but what was so hard about making the next step to personalized characters going on adventures with stats?

Die, paper, pens/pencils, figures, etc are all cheap to manufacture. Minor nobility or even knights would have access to all they needed, they could even store stats on a chiseled piece of rock, stack counters as a record, or use an abacus if they were really broke. They had wargaming with figurines way back stretching centuries, but they lacked the imagination to take it a step further with a full adventure?

Is it really an egg of Columbus situation where it's so intuitively obvious when discovered, but hard to actually discover? Or was it just sheer bad luck in that it remained undiscovered for so long?

The most compelling argument for why RPGs and other fiction like LoTR was not invented before is because our own era is so particularly unfulfilling that it drives us to different worlds where we can have fun and empower ourselves to do stuff.

Early wargaming was all about teaching to direct armies. Also, the tradition of dickass GMs misinterpreting your intentions come from that era, to punish officers-in-training for not giving clear orders.
>>

Believe it or not. While ancient civilizations certainly had cartography (map-making), the use of detailed, to-scale battlefield maps for tactical planning during a battle, as we understand them today, was not a common or well-documented practice in antiquity. In ancient times (like Greece and Rome), maps were primarily for large-scale logistics (e.g., Roman road networks) and regional strategy. Generals relied on mental maps, local guides, and personally visiting the battlefield.

Battle plans were often relatively simple and conveyed verbally. The success of maneuvers depended more on the discipline, training, and unit cohesion of the soldiers, and the commander's ability to react to the unfolding situation, rather than on a detailed "top-down" map overview.

The widespread military use of maps accelerated with the Renaissance and the development of modern surveying. The invention of the printing press and advances in surveying led to more accurate maps. By the Napoleonic Wars (1799–1815), detailed topographic maps became standard for planning battles. This marked the widespread use of battlefield maps as we understand them today.
>>
>>96627640
As others have mentioned - Roleplaying games became a thing thanks to XIX-XX century wargaming and fantasy stories. One provided rigid base for mechanical gameplay, the other provided the general concept of adventuring and party-based interactions.
You had pen, papers and miniatures for millennia, but the concepts that met and connected into roleplaying games just did not existed yet in shape and form needed for it.

Genesys does overall seem to lead to more interesting games
Forcing the player to chose between a stronger engine or a stronger reactive core simply makes for more creative decks
Also links not being around means combo decks can't turn every extender in to full combo for free. You can actually interact with them at choke points and stop them
>>
>96630296
>Also links not being around means combo decks can't turn every extender in to full combo for free.
There's a decent amount of decks that can still go for a full combo for free. But what the combo's ceiling can be HAS changed, because 2 spare bodies doesn't grant an I:P or S:P, and 3 bodies can't act like 4 by going through a Selene or Transcode that can revive a monster for free material.
>>
>>96630461
>There's a decent amount of decks that can still go for a full combo for free.
Of course there are still combo decks that can be resilient but it's not like EVERY FUCKING DECK has the link 1 dingus that tutors the field spell that summons a dork etc
Maliss, Yummy, Snake eyes, it's just a constant ever present problem in advanced that wouldn't be a thing if links weren't around

Personally, I would allow it to adjust the to-hit and cluster up and down. Good pilots who can eat the hit penalty can tighten up their clusters to land more missiles, or bad pilots can boost the to-hit but land less missiles.

A single, naked dragon slayer with no runes has been a mainstay for all my games over 2k points I at least 3 editions (6th, 7th and 8th, which I'm still playing).

Give him a name and just run him in all your big lists. Use him recklessly. It will often do nothing but when it does something, you'll remember it for the rest of your life.

Mine has solo'ed steam tanks, taken down units of blood knights, killed chaos lords on juggernaut, slain vampires, destroyed manticores, held a unit of zombies for 6 turns, took out plenty of monsters and a greater deamon of nurgle.

Granted he most often dies and does next to nothing but he's always made my games more interesting for both me and my opponent.

What /tg/-related books have you been reading anon, or what you think what other people should read too?
I've read Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit before I knew what the hell ttrpgs even were. Same with the original Dragonlance books. I was thinking of picking up Elric of Melnibone and Original Conan the Barbarian. Already read and enjoyed Eisenhorn, most of the Slayer books with Gotrek, first 1.5 of the Black Company books. I can't stand The Name of the Wind, and I'm always shocked when people recommend it. Patrick Rothfus and Brandon Sanderson are terrible writers, and they produce wish-fulfilment garbage for dorks.
Their writing appeals to the kinds of mongrels that read light novel adaptations. To this day, The Name of the Wind is the only fantasy novel I ever sat down to read that was so bad it actually made me fucking angry. Brandon Sanderson's stuff is just bland, boring, for autists, and has no real point to any of it.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image (follow the URL to get to a folder with some files, read the files to get to the archive). Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: Which rule do you constantly see shilled but always thought it was shit?

My Elder Scrolls libraries are close to done. I have templates for races, birthsigns, and classes. A full library of Ritual Magic spells assigned to TES Colleges with inappropriate spells removed and unique TES spells added (Bound equipment, Soul Trap, Mark & Recall, etc.), small collections of custom traits (mostly talents but also a Weirdness Magnet based on Bethesda jank) and custom skills (the magic college skills, Hidden Lores, etc.), a list of diseases, some TES armors and equipment modifiers, and a complete catalog of monster statblocks from Morrowind.
It's in a usable state already, but I have a few more things to add, namely lenses for vampires and werewolves as well as monster statblocks from Oblivion and Skyrim.
The plan is to, hopefully, get it included in GCS' homebrew folder, so anyone can use them as they please.

Hmm i could do a whole "Up to 8 points among Replace Hideous with Ugly[8], Replace Ugly with Unattractive" etc. But then a player could potentially take 2 steps instead of 1 as i would like it, it seems cleaner to me.
