I never got why there was a flood of Rugrats games during this time. It felt like they were pushing this to be the next Mario or the next Sonic the Hedgehog, but a good amount of the games weren't good, especially this one.

I forget the exact situation, apparently the passover episode was something they always wanted to do but the network forced them to put even more jew shit into the show along side it.

Hey what about the NES game with it's HD skin available? That one was pretty good.

https://youtu.be/jeS0KB5WiYQ?si=877B3ktgpkuSskAy

I wonder why that developer didn't made follow ups based on other Nick shows, we could have gotten a SpongeBob game in that style.
>>
>>12477434
I can tell you're younger. Heres a history lesson for you OP. Rugrats was HUGE in the late 90s. Like Spongebob huge for Nickelodeon. Reruns played during the afternoon would get better TV ratings that premieres of shows on primetime on major networks. That's how big it was. It's why The Rugrats Movie was made as well. Rugrats had a huge second wind after it's 3rd season that pushed it for several more seasons plus another spinoff show entirely (All Grown Up!)

Were there any large faction of people in gaming who did not like the transition into 64 bit 3D games in the mid 90s, or was that considered mental illness?
>imagining all this 3D slop coming out and ruining the entire medium
It's somewhat plausible.

My older siblings grew up with an NES and genesis and stopped playing videogames long before we had any 3D consoles at home.
Later I've heard them talk about 3D games like "They're too confusing. You can go anywhere and I don't know what to do."
>>
I think enthusiasts all too often project such quandries onto others. People by and large just accept what's available without a second thought about how shit compares to the past, other media, different regions, etc. 3D was a spectacle to the average consumer, and helped differentiate it from the previous generation. Development moved to new platforms. Unless you had parents who made you sell off your current console to fund a new one (as some I knew did), it's not as if you suddenly lost access to those games. You had too many new games coming out to lament about the past, and consider what may have been lost in the transition. There's a parallel to this in the console war debate. There would be arguments about what console was better and some tribal pride, but for the most part, you just wanted to play everything. You'd play fighters with whoever had a PSX, splitscreen FPS with N64 owners. Someyimes we'd even coordinate what games we got to make sure we had a wider variety to choose from. A lot of the discourse I see on /vr/ was never relevant then or even now.
>>
>>12482559
i dont really remember anyone saying they disliked 3D when it was new. it was such a big leap that everyone seemed pretty excited for it.
>>
>>12482559
Not exactly but I went from 8 bit to pc so played early 3D games like Doom and simply polygon and early textured games and then later discovered 16 bit games after I had an N64 so I didn't have the impression that some other people had that 16 bit games were outdated and primitive. I liked 3D games but I would also be really excited if I saw one of the few 2D games for the ps1. When I saw Doom on snes in a rental place I just assumed that technically Doom was on the level of 16 bit games. When I saw Yoshi Story on N64 the graphics absolutely blew me away and this was after playing the early N64 3D games. And back then before I knew anything I considered Wolfenstein 3D to have graphics equivalent to an Nes or Master System game.

One moment was playing DK64 and thinking how much worse the graphics were.

>>12482580
I used to be disgusted with an non textured 3D from before 1994 or so if I happened to find a demo on pc. At the time I believed that the typical 16 bit game was so much more advanced.
>>
>>12482580
I agree; I think for the most part 3d looked like dogshit in the PS1/N64/Saturn era. Things only really looked good in the following generation with the PS2/GC/Xbox.

Have access to Digimon, Dragon Ball, Yu-Gi-Oh! and One Piece. Still fails.
Why?

Square was going through its golden era and had banger after banger, people at the time merely assumed it was just as high quality as like 7 but it's the sort of thing that you go back and look at more in-depth and away from the time it was released and the flaws become more and more obvious. We can look back in retrospect and see it's flaws more clearly now.

The story is needlessly confusing and poorly paced to the point nothing really makes sense until you're info dumped on near the end of the game, the huge cast of characters was novel but ended up severely impacting the quality of the overall writing and character work to the point that character arcs that were set up and that they clearly wanted to do were put to the side. The gameplay also just screams of wanting to try something different, which fits what square was doing at the time mind you so it's not like that's inherently bad, but didn't really work out and never came together in a completely coherent way (same with the likes of FF8).

Visually it's great though and I don't think most people will ing old faith say the music is bad. I would NEVER put it at a 9/10 like this reviews but I wouldn't drop it below a 6 or 7 depending on my mood.
>>

>>
>>12484927
You can still look up what actual consumers said about the game when it was new. It was well-liked, the main beef you heard about the game was from some Chrono Trigger fans disappointed in it as a sequel. It's a very popular example used when people say "great game, bad sequel." But even that wasn't universal, a lot of CT fans loved it too.
>>
>>12487257
Exactly, but that didn't translate 1:1 to sales, and a lot of people's first physical version they had access to was the extremely slow PS1 rerelease, or later shit like the DS one. It would be safe to say that a significant portion of its fans for a decade or so were not people who bought from its initial run, or even at all until well after CC came out. Not to mention how much popularity it gained over time due to its cult classic status and Toriyama connections on top of consistent praise. When CC came out there were people who took it as something new, people who were pissed it wasn't CT2, but still plenty who never had the opportunity to even play CT commercially until around when lavos awakened and CC was released. The anon who compared it to FF8 was right in a lot of ways, even down to the intro style and abstract natures of the games' stories.

I have multiple CRTs connected to consoles via a matrix switcher. Screenshots showing the same thing on both displays is just a demonstration, I don't normally play on multiple simultaneously. It's just nice to easily be able to pick which display I want to use at a given time, or if there are multiple people.
>>
>>12486973
I drunkenly bought it on ebay like 5 years ago. It is starting to go wonky as there is a horizontal line in the middle of the screen when it powers up that does go away if left on long enough (usually over an hour). Still I don't use it a huge amount and after a few mins of warming up the line becomes hard to see unless its very bright content so i'll live just to get muh nostalgia.

Yeah I should probably get a matrix switcher at some point. It's kind of annoying to have to go behind the CRTs to switch inputs all the time.

It's got a simple and easy structure and a nice story. ALttP is just Zelda 1 with new paint. It didn't do anything in game design they hadn't already done. I also think it's the most bland of the Zelda 1-likes.

ALTTP was a huge improvement in every category across the board from Zelda 1, massively overhauled the dungeon designs and the overworld structure, and formed the foundation for all future Zelda games (and Zeldalikes) all the way up to BotW

The PC version is a lot different than the 3DO one. If you want to avoid Nightdive, there's a decent patch for the original PC version.
>>
>>12487241
It's basically a reverse Powerslave situation with basically two different games, except this time PC version is better (except for monster sprites being a huge downgrade, which is mitigated in the remaster).

100% kills/secrets is a replay goal. Don't worry about it too much first time round. Just if you play it and find yourself thinking "that was good but I can do better" afterwards.

It's not that it's Japanese, it's that the NES game was made by Kemco so you get what you expected.
>>
>>12486773
Not really. Sunsoft tends to have mixed results. On one hand, you get classics like Batman and Blaster Master, on the other, you get total garbage like Ikki.
>>
>>12486784
Ikki wasn't even in-house that was done by TOSE. That said Sunsoft actually had two different NES teams. One was the team who did their early garbage like Route 16 Turbo and Platoon, after that they were fired and replaced by the team that did Batman and Blaster Master.
>>
>>12486708
What I never understood was that at least for Superman games I remember him having plenty of enemies in the comics and cartoons who were on par with his strength so something like a fighting game or boss rush type thing would have worked. Platforming was out of the question since he can fly at supersonic speeds so of course he wouldn't have to make pixel perfect jumps or any jumps for that matter, and beat em ups were kinda dumb since there aren't really any Superman villains that work well as mooks since that type of enemy has to be strong enough to hurt you but also weak enough for you to be able to defeat hundreds on your own. For Superman it seems like he's either completely invulnerable to an enemy's attacks, or if they can hurt him they tend to be in his league and not something you could just clone to have him mow through.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX2arzhTgOs

Superman is ok, not quite as slick as The Incredible Hulk and it's also a shorter game, probably because it's 8 megabits instead of 16 so Hulk has more detailed graphics and especially sprites.

ok guys I don't think I can wait for this retroid for another 1-2 months. I'm going to impulse buy a cheap handheld to tide me over. Thinking about the RG35XX H or RG40XX H. Should I buy from Anberic direct US, or the Anberic US store on aliexpress? they are nice but if you're eventually getting a retroid it's gonna essentially directly replace those in most use cases so if you're that desperate to consume you may as well buy a clamshell that might be less redundant in the long run as it has utility your retroid won't replace
