Why is he a pig?
>>12653365okay, but I still want to know if you are japanese
Wizardry took the porcs from 1E D&D, which is probably where the Japanese picked it up from. Wizardry was insanely popular over there.
many videogames are notorious for having evil pigs
>>12652785In LttP it could be said that he doesn't have a Moon Pearl, so his Dark World form reflects his inner self as a brutish ugly boar, so maybe he got "stuck" that way. Given the timeline of the series, though, that explanation wouldn't really hold up.As for the artistic reason, I guess they thought he looked cool, and a giant pig-orc creature was maybe a bit less overplayed than having him be a dragon or a human wizard or something
pig are a classic gross animal; fat, subservient but sly, eats children if not careful, eats your remains, basically the definition of a livestock that you hate but keep around for sustenance; such animal caricatures were always common and pigmen you could say are a gross evil, not like a white haired mage or armored black knight where theres some sense of nobility, but they are more blunt and feral. basically a classic case of a trash mob you can kill without remorse that you don't have to characterize or allude to any specific peoples, since every peoples have such kind of caricatures (evil fat people, but fuck them for getting mad at pigmen, why are you evil AND fat?)
Now that 99.99% of known console games are dumped and accessible for everyone what are actual hidden gems these days? Doujin games that had a limited run of 100 copies on some comiket 30 years ago? Games from Korean and Taiwanese domestic market?
>>12653773>hidden gems reddit coded
Even though I had them when they came out my quintessential hidden gems will always be earthbound and chrono trigger.
>>12653935They were never hidden though.
slop, Japan
>>12653773>known console games are dumped and accessible for everyonewheres the AI translation of all the nippon games?
What was your reaction to Ocarina of Time like?
>>12653302Wow, this is great. I'm having fun.
>>12653302I can't say I knew about it before it came out, but it took at least a decade for me to find a better game. Mostly just because I got tired of playing through it so much like everyone else. I can't think of any game from the same era with a map this big, this many weapons and mechanics, and a story this great

Didn't get to play it at release. Family was poor and we could only get one console that generation, so we got a playstation. Eventually got to play it when next generation came by and my one console was the zelda bundle gamecube. I remember playing it just cause I didn't have many games and was playing what I could until I could save up for my next game. It was fun, but nothing I want to go back and replay. It did inspire me to play all the Zelda games I missed up to that point though
>one of the, if not the most famous and successful bands in Asia>they sold dozens of millions of records and sell out big stadis year after year, for almost 40 years>Band leader and main composer is also responsible for some of the most famous, beloved and iconic video game music ever made: Sonic 1 and 2 soundtracks>Sonic fandom is gargantuan and ever expanding from generation to generation>despite original 90s Sonic fans and modern Sonic fans having little in common, all of them love the Green Hill Zone theme>Dreams Come True is, however, ignored by the fanbaseI always found this weird. DCT is such a quintessential part of Sonic. Sonic's first ever public apparition was in a DCT live tour poster. The DCT music is VERY similar to the Sonic 1 and 2 soundtracks, unsurprisingly. Some of the Sonic songs actually either were originally DCT songs, or were later adapted as DCT songs, at least some elements. They still humor Sonic fans even in modern times, some years ago they released a new song using the main melody from Green Hill Zone (which, in reality, was originally from an old DCT song). The Dreams Come True name appears in both Sonic 1 and 2 credit staff. So I just find it unlikely that a fanbase as obsessive as the Sonic one is wouldn't be all over DCT, but yeah nobody in the west seems to care
>>12654027>>despite original 90s Sonic fans and modern Sonic fans having little in common, all of them love the Green Hill Zone themeOK, dangerous statement guysBut I think Emerald Hill Zone is A LOT better.
Treasure trove of hidden gems.
>>12653730When has this ever happened?
One of these days I’m gonna finish little Ralph.
>>12653696It's funny how those Fromsoft games go "use shoulder buttons to look up and down"
>>12653696Can we cool it on the shit posting. I’m sure there’s a psx game you like and you don’t actually have a seething grudge for a 30 year old console.
>>12653869The game is like 45 minutes long man
I just started playing this, really late to the party lol. What do you like about it? what made early internet debates between it and Ocarina of Time so intense?
>>12653821I played it nearly after launch as my first ever FF game, did not know anything about the story or spoiler etc,and did not use a guide, and I was blown away.never in my life I've ever been absorbed by a game like that, and still even,ok perhaps because I was a kid, and the times were different, where you don't have 10000 things distracting you.try to not use a guide for a first playthrough, make lots of saves, you can beat this easy, then after you beat it, read a guide for the post-end content
>>12653821They poured a shitload of money into it. It was like the most expensive game ever made up to when it released, with an exorbitant marketing budget alone.
>>12653821don't use a guide, play blind. I played it at release, loved it, and it still holds up today as one of the best jrpgs of all time; i replay every few years and it's always good. Absolutely great plot, likeable and engaging characters, awesome music, good exploration, great pacing, unique aesthetic, and simple yet satisfying and effective combat. FF7 just does everything right.
>>12653930>how am I suppose to know what to give Cid when I just met him?Lol. It shouldn't take long to realize he ain't no mage or thief.

How do they call upon the menkhu, the faithful of a Warden kin? Known by their hands, for they are butchers; known by their eyes, for they are surgeons; they who follow the lines; they who are the leaders of the Kin; they who speak to udurghs; they who know the secret art of haruspicy. What is a haruspex? Reading the future in the entrails, he knows that a body bears semblance to the Universe. His scalpel follows the lines of the body; his steps follow the lines of his kin's fortune. A haruspex that can tell a true line from a false one is entrusted with power. A haruspex who is confused by his path gets buried into the deep black flesh of the Earth.
Arcadey fun.
I'm playing Liberty City Stories on the PSP for the first time and it's surprisingly good, it really feels like a combination of these two games, I'm sure the sequel is even better.
>>12653327You are gen Z
>>12653940Sadly it's not really. LCS is like an updated and arguably improved version of 3 and has mostly fun missions. VCS is alright but definitely isn't better than VC. Still worth playing for the returning characters and radio stations but temper your expectations a bit.
>GTAI only ever played San Andreas, should I even bother with III, VC, 4, and V?
>>12654038III and VC yes but skip the others.Chinatown Wars was the last actually fun GTA though.

Every time I play one of these dogshit kusoge """hidden gems""" I am reminded that this trash flopped for good reason.Good fucking riddance, one of the most miserable and boring games I've played in my life.

>>12653979The shitty nonsensical slippery movement is bad enough without the obnoxious single shot attack that flies around in nonsensical ways and can't be thrown again until it's completely done.I'm convinced no one actually enjoys this game and it's just quirky redditor fags trying to flex their e-peen by dickriding some shitty "hidden gem"
Did even a single person actually prefer the art in OP, or was that just a clueless boomer thing?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, NES games are ass, all of them, I don't care what scrimblo chips you use, there isn't a single NES game that doesn't play like dated shit. One of the most skippable retro consoles.
What's with the anti hidden gem spamming as of late? Is it yet another term I'll have to filter because faggot zoomer anons are just one-note retards?https://desuarchive.org/vr/search/text/hidden%20gem/type/op/
Easily the best of the NES games
>>12653516But as far as sluggish goes, it might be a slog for some but I actually enjoyed the crystal tower and the other final dungeons attached to it. I imagine it would suck if you die on the final boss and have to redo it though.
>>12652007>The truth is that the majority of people never played any version and simply heard about the stat progression system and worked themselves into a shoot about it secondhand.This. Friends of mine advised me to skip it when doing a chronological playthrough of the whole mainline series. Between playing IX and X I went back and played II, was shocked at how completely fine it was. It wasn't incredible or anything, but competent enough relative to games of the time. I was pretty annoyed to find out neither of those friends had actually beaten the game either. Now I never really trust anyone's opinion on a game until I've played it myself. >>12653516>>12653520Easily my favorite part of the game because it was so dangerous. Attrition is such an important aspect to the experience of a dungeon crawl. Cloud of Darkness was pretty tough too, the accomplishment of defeating her was very cathartic.
>>12653817>was shocked at how completely fine it was>Now I never really trust anyone's opinion on a game until I've played it myself. there are deep human psyche elements at play where people want to play the role of the enlightened critic and bestow their opinions onto others and feel compelled to lie. That coupled with getting biased by opinion they hear and wanting to be part of a group so if they have no opinion they will adopt the common one. In my advanced age online opinion can never talk me out of playing anything, it can only alert me to the existence of games and im capable of determining if im going to play it or not. When you spend enough time online you realize how terrible and useless individual opinions are, youd have better luck flipping a coin to know if a game is worth playing.
>>12651746I'm curious if you played the NES version or are going off the later PSP / GBA port. The NES version did some really fucking stupid shit if so but I can understand liking the other ones and appreciating the interesting stuff it does compared to other NES games.Personally my favorite is FF3 but specifically the FF3 3D remake. I just really like a lot of the stuff it does.
>>12653853I agree for the most part. I don't think it's entirely a waste of time, but few people are willing to put in the effort, autism and good faith enough to explain why XYZ is good/bad, and use evidence to support it.
So far I've played:>Final Fantasy II (IV)>Final Fantasy III (VI)>Chrono Trigger>Super Mario RPG>Secret of Mana>Secret of Evermore>Soul Blazer>Illusion of Gaia>TerranigmaI liked/loved all of them but what other normie picks are there? Don't post some obscure bullshit. I just want to play all of the most common and expected RPGs for the system.

What's the most obscure video game console you ever owned? No, I don't mean some faggy chinese famiclone, I mean an officially-licensed console you owned at the time.
>>12651718I own a japanese 32x while being a western european, I guess that counts as obscure.
>>12652434Sears tele-games had a pong and a "video arcade II" which was a japanese version of the 2600/sold in USA. Looked way better than the old atari AVS.
>>12652387>>12652434>>12653459Not digging it out for a better picture, but the one on the right is the Sears version of the Intellivision, minus the controllers. On the left is the aforementioned Radioshack/Tandy version which is pretty identical to the normal Mattel system. And to answer thread, probably Famicom/Super Famicom Box or the Sharp NES TV. Also have some educational handheld from Japan that i can't recall the name of that is internally basically the same as a WonderSwan and can sort of play its carts. Maybe also throw in the PC Engine Shuttle (and PC Boy if we can count bootlegs), Interactivision or Etch-A-Sketch Animator 2000.
My dad brought home a 3DO in like fucking 2015, someone gave it to him. I sold it on ebay for £60.
