All the apps try and say that you can narrow down your search, or apps like Boo, but it just ends up being normies who either catfish or ghost. Is there an actual place or app to use that isn't dog shit? At the same time I've found that cosplayers generally want to be left alone at cons while they do their thing.

>>10964090Gotta start by being open to the fact that you don't know the person and therefore need to get to know them, in a non-pressure way, to see if you both match. Generally, as mentioned above, Instagram. If you post your cosplays on Insta, you can easily break the ice by saying "oh can I post this on my instagram? Here's my handle" or similar, and you make little cards or get business cards easily (its not that weird as a lot of people try to promote themselves at cons similarly). Sometimes that leads into more conversation naturally, but the conversation will stop there 95% of the time, and what you need to do is follow up on Instagram, but don't be weird. Tag them, and find something to connect over from their profile. Don't bullshit. Don't send a message about loving X because they said they love X and you don't actually care about X but want to use it as an excuse to talk to them. That's creepy and manipulative. Actually be interested in the conversation. Anything that mentions dating/getting to know them better right off the bat is an immediate "no". If they never message back, no big deal, you tagged someone with a cool cosplay, move on. Guys, how old is too old?Like, I am an oldfag in his mid 40s. Used to be very involved in the con scene back in the 90s and early 00s. I am currently on a very nostalgic mood about those days of yore, and planning to visit a few of the big cons to see how's the fandom nowadays. Would I be, as you youngsters say, cringe? Worse, would other congoers immediately assume I am a creepy pedophile? I get to meet so many VAs and musical guests it doesn't even register that they're "famous" anymore. Only downside is that people keep speaking Japanese at me and I can only ask where the bathroom is. I also cosplay boomer anime like Harlock and Space Battleship Yamato, which will be "age appropriate" until I'm pushing 50. Since they're not FOTM anime, they'll also still be popular too. When I started going to cons ten years ago, there were always a few booths selling cosplay parts: many sold wigs, some sold pieces. I remember you could walk in with no cosplay like our dear anon here and find something easily for at least day 1; I specifically remember one place selling Astolfo's wig and a different place selling his school uniform, so if you were tiny enough you could walk out of the dealer room as Astolfo. Haven't really seen dealers like that much at post-covid cons even though cosplay is super popular now, it's usually just the sword sellers in the back of dealer rooms left.
