>>12258732Batman Returns for Master System or Game Gear are both superb and have a great atmosphere.
>>12263050the one level in THPS1 that was downhill was pretty fun thoughcan't remember very well but didn't shaun palmer's have some chairlifts and shit that would bring you back up the slope?need to give it a try again, i remember liking it more than matt hoffman's bmx and definitely more than the surfing and wakeboarding games they released
>>12264072you're entitled to your own sense of fun, most people did not agree with that notion.
You now remember Chip's challenge.
>>12264076The Atari Lynx version mogs that.
>>12264118The Amiga version mogs that.
>>12264138Possibly.
>>12264145Absolutely.
>>12264076I never forgot Chip's Challenge.
Gamecube is allowed and I recently got into this series. What did you think of Pikmin when it originally came out, and are you a big fan of both gameplay styles? the time limit, and the dungeons both.
>>12262437I wrote them off as boring kiddie games, much like Kirby. I recently got into Kirby as well, but not retro.
>>12262464Well I hope you learned your lesson.
>>12262464WW is the kiddiest of all.
>>12259836>What did you think of Pikmin when it originally came outI thought it was extremely gay and childish. The weird humour (?) and the constant exclamations/squeals are horrible. >are you a big fan of both gameplay styles? No.
>>12262438There is no waggle on the Wii versions of Pikmin 1, 2 or Metroid Prime Trilogy (well, at least in 1 and 2, there is waggle in 3). IR pointing controls are not waggle. Imagine thinking that aiming with a slight flick of the wrist and shooting is worse than using two sticks to move coordinates. It is impossible to play with as much precision as on the Wii with any other control type.
anybody got experience with them? I got them on my back catalogue, and wanna know any tips or whatever I should look into when I get started. obscure fantasy-WW2 naval combat games.
>>12263028I loved this series. It's too bad they discontinued it. NO: Commander isn't as good as the other two games in the series since it's top-down only but it's alright.
>>12263360from running the Japanese wikipedia article on it through MTL, it seems the franchise has two distinct series, the Warship Commander games and Warship Gunner games. WSC are focused on commanding an entire flotilla, whereas the WSG titles are about controlling individual ships. Besides the three titles released in the west, there's a further half-dozen that never left Japan (mostly PC titles).
How much should I pay for them?Which ones are the best to look out for?Best screen size for the common resolutions from snes to ps2 era.
Just picked this up for $20 yesterday.
How much should I pay for them?>nothingWhich ones are the best to look out for?>none of themBest screen size for the common resolutions from snes to ps2 era.>It doesn’t matter. Even back then the bigger the screen the better
>>12261535You can maybe get 300 bucks for it, but you're responsible for shipping it, and you're liable if it doesn't arrive in good condition, and the guy on the other end can just decide it's not what he paid for and send it back (possibly damaged again en route) because PayPal are 100% for the buyer and nobody else.Something like this happened to me, new item sold, returned used, had to return the money and hold onto a worse item I couldn't resell.
>>12263926And here's an SNES hooked up. Really like the screen but the case is pretty beat.
>>12261535buying CRTs on ebay is full retard, both price wise and the fact it will not arrive in 1 piece. every single day on fb or reddit i see some retard buying a CRT online and it showing up smashed to fuck.if you want one just be happy with whatever one you can grab for less than 50 bucks from some old lady cleaning out her garage. dont be some retard that thinks he needs a PVM or a certain model
Have any anons experienced the 90s-2000s import scene? From what i know there were forums dedicated to the topic, it was mentioned a couple times in webcomics, and a few times in print media (gamefan, picrel.)It looked pretty comfy, if you guys have any stories, please share.
>>12263763>From what i knowAs usual just about everything zoomies "know" is wrong.>please shareNot the slightest bit interested. You've already turned what little "information" you have into stupid drivel.>>12263781>I lived in Japan in the 2000sBut of course you did, sweaty. You moved there to live with your antuie and uncle who worked at nintendo after your life got flip turned upside down.
>>12263763See for yourself.https://groups.google.com/g/alt.games.video.sony-playstation/search?q=import%20before%3A2002-01-01
>>12263982This lol, I played LSD as a kid and was surprised to learn it was a Japan only gamw
Its worth it to get sfc copies of x2 and x3.
>>12264127If you like the games why not, I've always been a bit suspicious of everdrives replicating special chips
WE'RE GONNA KILL YOU KIDSWE'RE NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL, WE HATE YOU AND YOU'RE GONNA DIEAAAAAAAAA!!AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
>>12263025Yeah just like comedy that makes fun of races sexuality and gender
>>12262803It was really stupid for them to overreact to video games in particular after so many R-rated films in years prior had toy lines associated with them. Alien, Robocop, Terminator, Rambo, and many others in the 10 years prior to Mortal Kombat all sold a lot of merchandise to children and there wasn't a push against them for it. Mortal Kombat as a video game is really tame compared to any of those movies. It was just a case of NEW THING BAD by a bunch of politicians that wanted a cause to increase their brand image with.Joe Lieberman wanted to feel relevant, and Hillary Clinton had just embarrassed herself in failing to garner support for healthcare reform.
>>12263397It was a building fire, mk just became a scapegoat for all violent media. You had two fronts, violence and occultism. Heavy metal, movies dungeons and dragons, my little pony and troll dolls smurfs etc all were catching shit but MK really became a scapegoat for violence. I don't agree with it but I also don't believe the "satanic panic" was be, if you know the occult you know there was indeed a big cover up, media just had the least to do with it but of course clueless parents saw it as a main problem. The problem was powerful rich adults into weird shit behind closed doors, not Ed Boon etc
>>12263485You say that like Tobias wasn't sucking off the interns in his office at Midway.
>>12263870You talk a lot of shit about sucking off interns.Have you tried it?
Is that possible?
>>12263683
>>12264089>If you have a Wii consider getting the VC version.I do have a Wii, but no time machine so there's no way for me to put it on there outside of ROM injection which usually messes things up, or have things improved?
>>12264104>which usually messes things up, or have things improved?jailbreaking your wii has always been easy and bricking it is only possible if you are retarded.
I always played the song of double time and that usually was plenty to complete a least one area
>>12264108I dun broke it oudda game jail many eons back, but how do I fixin' ta play it from the VC, pardner?
mario, zelda, metroid, kirby, punch out, contra, castlevania, mega man, dragon quest were all more fun on NES than SNES. not to mention ninja gaiden which didnt even get anything besides a shitty demake. was there anything that actually got better with 16 bit besides FF and mother?
>>12261285Why so harsh, anon? Give the 8-Bit Sonic titles a try and compare them to their 16-Bit counterparts, I'm sure you'll see the appeal.
>>12260893I only play shoot em ups, rogue like dungeon crawlers and mahjong games because I won at life.
>>12262353if you have working eyes, 8:7. if you have mental disability, 4:3
>>12262353>4:3 is "intended"oh yeah, nintendo definitely intended the square power blocks that are square in every other game in the series and in all official merchandise to actually be rectangles in SMB. and link was originally a fat mexican dwarf, not a twink elf. everyone knows that.
>>122536763rd gen was to 4th gen what 5th gen was to the 6th gen
This is why the n64 won the war in the end and you see eurosnoys constantly seething abount Americhad youtubers making romhacks and videos about their favorite Nintendo games 30+ years later. PS1 has absolutely 0 relevance in pop culture and little legacy to remember. 34 year old Latinx bong incels who have made console warring their hobby on image boards is all the fans it has left
>>12263116That image doesn't really paints the Saturn in a good light, it's """big""" win over Nintendo a pathetic 1%
>>12263034It does have a legacy, ya loony fuck; the PlayStation 2-5.
>>12263034It's crazy how Nintendo fans love to rewrite history, if you browse the web for a few hours you'll think N64 and Game Cube were more relevant than PS1 and PS2, while all of us here know what happened.
>>12263034>ps1 has no legacyBut it has plenty of games, maybe Nintendo should've tried making some so you wouldn't be seething for over 30 years over another system
>>12263034...And people say nintendo fans aren't the worst posters on this site.
I just started Final Fantasy Tactics for the first time and I'm already in love.
>>12263567Supremely gay localization choice, desu.
>>12263527Remember when people talk about keeping an extra save?I have faith you won't need it, but this is the spot.
>>12263571Is it really a localization if they're directly translating the reference? The original is 愛にすべてを which is the official translation for the Queen song.
>>12263527These guest characters do stupid things sometimes
>>12263484My bad, the rates were so miniscule my ancient old man eyes must have missed the fraction of a percentage point difference it made. I guess you also missed the fact that it pieces Reflect and is not Calculatable but I guarantee almost nobody gives a shit about those detailsIn the end I think Haste and Don't Move were the go to spells I always run for Time Mage. >>12263451hahaha, welp. You found the spot.>>12263515Two Swords OP>>12263527Another classic game over area.
What are some classic design principles that you think have been lost to time?
>>12260457>Make games hard!>>12263842>being busy with work makes this pretty much impossibleYeah then you wouldn't have time to beat an actually challenging game ya dingus.
>>12260554probably means having barely enough resources on the map to complete the objective and keep the difficulty level fresh
>>12260213Anon, there was literally an entire series on the Nintendo DS that revived this exact concept because the touch screen was right there and 100% perfect for doing this exact task. And now, with no dual screen handheld on the market, it's gone once again. Maybe if we're lucky it'll surface once more at some point.
>>12263978Sadly Etrian Odyssey fucked up by putting a dot on the map screen to show where you are so you can't actually get lost, negating most mapping gameplay.
>>12263042You just don't get it anon, game publishers were in cahoot against rental companies. Game designers purposely inserted bad design into their games so that renters couldn't finish it in one day and they'd be forced to buy more copies. It was a worldwide conspiracy! I hope a youtuber can cover this soon so everyone knows how deep it went!
is the weakest argument one can have against a video game.Pic very much related because it's hard as a rock, yet quite rewarding for its time on a handheld. My problem with Battletoads is the controls are floaty and the hit detection is off, so that means it's a broken game, so losing to that doesn't even count. If I could just do what screen seems to be telling me to do like in every other game in existence, I'd play it and maybe even git gud enough to beat it.
>>12263998>But if you take, for example, a game where the final boss can kill you in one hit, and then kicks you back to the previous level, a 7-minute autoscroller that's obnoxious as fuck to play through, well that's just shitty game design. The boss itself isn't hard, but you have to learn how to kill it, and you can't really do that in an efficient way if it can kill you so easilyShots fired at Toki, ape down, I repeat ape down.I guess you're right on Mega Man too, but I find the ones past 2 to be tedious due to the janky weapon/item selection screen that was just fine beforehand.
>>12263928Both are stupid, in fact.
>>12263928fippy bippy
>>12264008I was talking about Ecco actually haha. And then there's Chakan, which, if you die to the boss, who kills you in one hit, game over, and you have to play through the entire game to face him again.
>>12264051>I was talking about Ecco actually hahaThat game intrigues me, but I always put off playing it. I had it on a SEGA collection for Switch, then they removed it. >And then there's Chakan, which, if you die to the boss, who kills you in one hit, game over, and you have to play through the entire game to face him again.Ow.
We call it the third gen but it might as well have been the first. >you're just nostalgic No, i'm not a nes kid not even a snes or genesis kid, didn't even play a single nes game during my childhood or saw one but after playing all retro consoles through emulation, gaming always felt like it started here.
>>12262341>How was I supposed to knowYou weren't. It's nobody's responsibility to make sure you're not a dumb ignorant fool humiliating yourself on the internet.
>>12263192I mean I was a kid back then just with a genesis and no real games like the ones I would find later for the Snes
>>12263245>I mean I was a kid back thenStill are. "Back then" was last week.
>>12260505I'm not trying to make anyone look like a retard, /vr/ has bias on every side, I just find Nintendo more prevalent on both /vr/ and the internet overall, if you watch YouTube you'll think N64 and Game Cube were a bigger deal than PS1 and PS2, for example, just how SEGA fans can often make the Saturn or Dreamcast seem like it was a bigger deal than they were.
>>12263831>if you don't like my shitty games you are underage Cope
Isn't it weird how Jigglypuff was shilled a lot back in gen 1 as the Pikachu for girls? It's not even that important in Pokemon Red and Blue, not a single named npc uses one, you can easily miss it, Clefairy a few steps north is a direct upgrade and yet it got a recurring appearance in the anime, got into fucking smash (pretty underserved)Eevee in contrast has actually become the "Pikachu for girls" without any first installment weridness shilling necessary, just by pure merit of its design.
