Pretty much what it says on the tin. What games are you running? What are you playing in?Read any new or interesting games lately?

For me, currently I am running a sci-fi savage worlds game, I am currently playing in a D&D 5e game and an OSE advanced game.

What about you?

Oh another thing to add, on the TV thing. There is a show "justified" you can see some examples on it. Pretty sure history channel had a reality show with it too with ginsing hunters, I think.

I appreciate the detailed response. I'm Australian and we don't have all that much variation in accent from side of the country to another so I've always enjoyed hearing from people where there's a bit more regional/subcultural distinctiveness. Shame to hear the dialect is disappearing but I guess that's fairly inevitable.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.

The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre. Let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

>Examples of companies providing rules and/or miniatures for alternative wargames.

BT is genuinely not a flavor that everyone enjoys, and there are several other styles of mech combat it doesn't cover. BT is more like a naval game than a tank or anime super infantry fight. Both Steel whats'is and C.A.V. aim for a lighter version of BT (although Black Talon seems to be going under), then you've got your tank-combat-ish games like Fistful of TOWs' mecha supplement and Heavy Gear, and a few anime attempts that almost always fail. Even if Robotech Tactics was genuinely a good game.

There's a new edition coming down the pipeline soon, promising some balance tweaks, and rolling some of the expansion material into the new core book, such as the undead faction.

Shadowdark has been the "new hotness" in the OSR scene for a few years now. I dig the b/w art and the vibe they have going but have not gotten to try it.

it's been awhile since i saw her solo play videos, but iirc she was pretty transparent about not knowing much about that side of the hobby. she references other solo play channels and used other tools initially before trying out building her own. i appreciate that an attempt was made, but admittedly i always use them alongside other resources since it is pretty light. i've played some dedicated solo RPGs since then though and clearly the experiences are very different.

>>97949967
it's okay to talk about things you don't know about, anon, it really is. i never mentioned i was an expert, but from what i know it seems to fit in closer with the old school experience than modern 5e. but i also acknowledge that "nu-sr" is a term that's been used around here too, so there's clearly a spectrum of experience.

It’s ok. I’m currently in a campaign, we’re about 10 sessions in. I think it’s overhyped but definitely not the worst thing out there. I have a couple problems with it. I really don’t like how hit or miss magic is. I prefer having magic work when you use it but having limited uses that you can plan around. Also, I don’t like how many monsters have multiple attacks while no PC gets multi attacks. You end up in situations where the PCs technically outnumber a group of monsters but the monsters have double their amount of attacks. It can make fights seem incredibly unfair when you think you should be on more even footing. And I can’t put my finger on it but there’s just something about the game that feels like a board game and not a roleplaying game. Like you’re just moving your character around the Clue mansion. I considered running Shadowdark for my friends who are 5e babies but one campaign of it is enough for me

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

TC team like to work slow, and the community broadly supports them taking their time.

I hate this modern 'you must put #newproduct out every day/week/month to keep engagement going or your #brand will DIE' idea.
It's pushed by marketing and PR people (who by their nature only have half an idea of how to do their jobs at best, and generally have no clue most of the time), and is the reason why every new movie is shit, every new product is shit, every new game is a rushed mess of bugs and generic slop design.

Deadlines, whilst important in some cases, are the bane of passion.

Rant aside, do we know if the printing partners bring new mini sculpts, or is it just manufacturing capacity?

It was a long culmination of Barbarians slowly moving within Rome's borders and gaining positions of note.
>>
>>97952383
Sure, but it was a case of barbarians joining Rome and, largely, maintaining Roman institutions once they'd taken over. It was hardly a straightforward case of military conquest, and my understanding, at least, is that while Germanic peoples of that time were barbarians by Roman or Greek standards, they weren't exactly the kinds of simple. savage tribes OP is talking about.

Popular Choices for Games:

>Mutants & Masterminds
Currently the most played one, uses a d20 resolution for everything, has powers building and rules for tactical combat.

>Marvel TSR/ FASERIP
Classic Supers game from the 80s, still has a lot of fans and various retro-clones. Uses a d100 with an universal resolution table to decide the degree of success, has random character generation and abstract rules for powers and combat.

Slightly meta but anything that lets you mess with dice rolls, especially setting them to fixed values for Law and making people reroll for Chaos
>>
>>97950784
These are usually framed as Luck powers.
>>
>>97871738
on a related note, would you prefer the game having a single meta-origin

where all the meta-humans in the area originate from the same event, giving the setting a distinct moment where it stopped being the world outside your window
like how most adaptations of spider-man, notably excepting the 90s show and 60s show, tend to try to connect all the villains of their world to oscorp

Besides the obvious like mind control powers and demonic and/or darkness powers, what are some more commonly “villainous” powers that you’d like to see heroes use more, and vice versa besides villains with light powers?

Also, what do you need to consider about mind control powers when using them, heroic or otherwise? Or the suggested powers in general?
>>
>>97952052
As a kid I used to think that copying or "stealing" other character's powers was a villain power because it wasn't "fair." Also the ability to switch bodies or transfer your mind into a clone is a great power for villains to have.

How about Morale rolls after some monsters get killed? I think one 3e or Chainmail book had a quick way to figure out morale scores, or maybe it was a Dragon article. It makes for a nice bit of old school flavor, at least.
